The Cardiac Rehab program has been certified by the AACVPR (American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation) since 2005. We are also very active on the state level with the WVACVPR (WV Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation).
Cardiac rehab is for people who have had CABG, MI, PTCA, valve replacement/ repair, transplants, or CHF in the last year. The service is covered by Medicare and a majority of commercial insurances. The patient has to be referred to the program by their physician.
The program consists of telemetry monitored exercise sessions 3 days per week for 12 weeks. Along with exercise the patients will have educational class that they will be expected to attend. The classes include information on risk factor modification, diabetes, exercise prescription, nutrition, angina and nitroglycerin use. The goal is to increase the individuals’ knowledge base so they can make informed decisions about their health.
Pulmonary Rehab is also offered for people who have chronic or restrictive lung disease, pneumoconiosis, pulmonary hypertension, or lung transplant surgery. They also need to be referred by a physician. Medicare and a majority of commercial insurances cover these services for pulmonary rehab. Educational classes are provided to these individuals on diaphragmatic and pursed lip breathing, energy conservation, nutrition, supplemental Oxygen, etc.
