Must have current WV State Licensure and general certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Technologist or categorical certification in the area of the laboratory in which the incumbent is working by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP), National Certification Agency (NCA), or certification by Health Education Welfare (HEW) or have previously qualified as a technologist under 42CFR 493.1433.

 

JOB SUMMARY AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Must be flexible to work all lab duties. Responsible for paperwork and general lab operation during shift. Performs and analyzes clinical laboratory tests in all laboratory section (e.g., Blood Band, Microbiology, Chemistry, Hematology and Immunology) follows standard operation policies and procedures, understands testing method principles, performs quality control, performs preventative maintenance to produce results which meets standards for accuracy, acceptability and critical limits. The technologist / technician works independently with consultation and guidance form the Medical Director and supervisory personnel. Organizes work to meet established deadlines and records all data obtained. Performs phlebotomy services on patients as requested. Accepts and promptly prepares patient specimens in order to perform and analyze, in an efficient manner, diagnostic procedures, (e.g., electrolytes, gram stains, blood cell counts, urinalysis, bleeding times, compatibility testing, etc.) designed to produce accurate reproducible results to meet the needs of patients, as requested by the medical staff. Reports to Laboratory Lead or charge technologist as assigned.
